There will be an initial consultation with the parents/ gaurdians or third party (GPs, Teachers, Social Workers etc) to assess the suitablity of the art therapy process. Children/ Young people may also initiate contact.

The initial art therapy session will give the child/ young person a sense of whether they would like to procede with the therapy.

Aideen's primary relationship will always be with the child or young person so on the first meeting Aideen will share (in an age appropriate manner) what had been discussed in the Initial Consultation.

Transparency regarding any future conversations with Parent(s)/Guardians or third parties will apply throughout the duration of the therapy.  However, the content of the sessions will remain confidential during the therapy. This will only be broken in cases of actual or potential risk.  The child/young person will be clearly informed of what information is being shared, why and with whom.

If the therapy procedes Aideen recommends a final review after 7-10 sessions. At this stage the child/ young person will have decided what parts if any they would like to share and parents/ guardians/ third pary will also have an opportunity to share their perspective. A collective decision can then be made on how to procede.

It is important that the sessions are held at the same time every week.  Continuity it essential in building up a trusting therapeutic relationship.  Adequate notice of when the therapy process will end must also be prioritised.

  • Sessions are normally 1 hour in duration.

  • 24 Hours cancellation notice required.

  • Aideen usually recommends 6 sessions to begin with followed by a review.

  • Fee is €50-€70 per session

  • A sliding scale basis is offered.

  • Initial Consultation with parents/ guardians/ third party is free of charge.
